Backing a Trailer : Mirage Trailers : TNT Trailer

Backing a trailer, especially for someone who hasn't had much practice, can be a bit intimidating.

Backing a trailer, especially for the inexperienced, can be a bit intimidating. Here's a tip from Mirage Trailers that can make the task a little easier.

Place your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel.

This makes the movement association between the steering wheel and your trailer a lot easier to grasp. To turn the trailer left, move your hand left. To turn it right, move your hand right.

Make subtle movements and drive slowly. You would be amazed at how much your trailer will move with only a slight adjustment to your steering wheel, and how much trouble you'll get in by making big corrections. Get someone to stand outside and help direct you. Also, to avoid jackknifing or otherwise damaging your trailer and tow vehicle, pull forward and reset if you've over-corrected one direction or the other. Happy trailering!
